Ficino

 

                                                  Biography


'Born in Florence on October 19, 1433 and died in October 1499. He was a doctor, priest, and musician.  He was best known for his work as a translator of classic works.  Marsilio's father was a philosopher.  In 1462 he founded a Platonic Academy and ordained preist in 1473, in 1494 he retired.  He never set foot out of territory of Flourence his sixty-six years alive.  He wrought a deep and lasting change in European societ.  He was first of all philosopher, but he was also scholar, doctor, musician and priest.  Little is known about his education except the names of his early teachers and that he studied under the Aristotelian, Niccolo Tignosi, at Florence University.
